Peki Mission Presentation A Success

On February 22nd, our Dix Hills UMC hosted the Peki Mission Ambassadors. Our Ambassadors are led by Rev. Victoria Affram-Boyd, who brought them to her home town of Peki, Ghana last August. As one of the Ambassadors, Pastor David led those who attended through a slide show presentation about the Peki Mission and the trip they took there. Sofo Afua (Rev. Victoria) shared a little about the mission, and the other Ambassadors spoke about some of their experiences in Ghana and answered questions. Those who came enjoyed Ghanaian food cooked by our own members, learned their Ghanaian names, and sang songs the Ambassadors brought home with them. It was a blessed time together, and the Peki Mission Ambassadors thank all of you for your supporting us in this mission. Those who were interested in going to Peki in 2010 were allowed to sign up for more information. If you would like to be one of the next team to Peki, email us about getting on board!

The Peki Church

• The new building will become a community center and gathering place used throughout the week.
• The Peki Methodist school educates children from kindergarten to the 10th grade, providing the stepping stones to a brighter future.
• Children are baptized in the church and brought up learning the faith in Sunday school.
• New converts are welcomed into the Christian community and instructed in the faith.
• Families are strengthened as they worship, learn, and work together in the church.
• Those in poverty find their needs met by the community. The church cares for those who are ill or elderly.
• Those who have moved from Peki have a “mother church” that welcomes them home. And when one passes away, it is at the church that life is celebrated as one is welcomed to eternal life.

Three Ways You Can Help the Peki Methodist Church

Prayer

Please pray with us that God will assist the Peki Methodist Church to see this project through to completion. Please pray that we will find willing partners in the United States who will join in mission with the Peki Church.

Financial

Right now, we are seeking churches who will support the Peki Methodist Church by making a one-time or ongoing financial contribution. Your donation will build a legacy as the church seeks to be a place of hope and healing in Peki.

The Peki Church estimates that it will cost a total of $130,000 (US dollars) to complete the 1,200 seat sanctuary, meeting rooms, classrooms, and Sunday school wing, and they are actively fundraising within Ghana. Your contribution will go a long way toward meeting this goal.

Volunteers

Beginning as early as 2008, we will be organizing groups of volunteers to travel to Peki. Willing volunteers of all ages and skills are welcome. Please let us know if you are interested. We also need volunteers who know particular trades, as they are in short supply in Ghana. Carpenters, plumbers, and electricians are encouraged to sign up.
