Arrival in Peki

Hello from Ghana (via cell phone),

We heard from Eddie today and he wanted us to pass along this information. Yesterday (Tuesday), the group saw the palace of the Ashanti king and the center of the ancient Ashanti empire-Kumasi. From there, they went to Adinkra printing village and participated in stamping cloth. They also drove through a wood carving village past beautiful mountains and over what was described as an extremely modern bridge (way ahead of its time for being built in 1956) on their way to Peki. Eddie was amazed at the ingenuity and spirit of the people.

The arrival in Peki was awesome. Hundreds of people lined the street waving and singing a song of welcome. It sounded truly inspiring.

In the evening, the group enjoyed a dinner of chicken, rice and ground nut sauce as well as pineapple that was the sweetest anyone in the group had ever had.

The Peki Church

• The new building will become a community center and gathering place used throughout the week.
• The Peki Methodist school educates children from kindergarten to the 10th grade, providing the stepping stones to a brighter future.
• Children are baptized in the church and brought up learning the faith in Sunday school.
• New converts are welcomed into the Christian community and instructed in the faith.
• Families are strengthened as they worship, learn, and work together in the church.
• Those in poverty find their needs met by the community. The church cares for those who are ill or elderly.
• Those who have moved from Peki have a “mother church” that welcomes them home. And when one passes away, it is at the church that life is celebrated as one is welcomed to eternal life.

Three Ways You Can Help the Peki Methodist Church

Prayer

Please pray with us that God will assist the Peki Methodist Church to see this project through to completion. Please pray that we will find willing partners in the United States who will join in mission with the Peki Church.

Financial

Right now, we are seeking churches who will support the Peki Methodist Church by making a one-time or ongoing financial contribution. Your donation will build a legacy as the church seeks to be a place of hope and healing in Peki.

The Peki Church estimates that it will cost a total of $130,000 (US dollars) to complete the 1,200 seat sanctuary, meeting rooms, classrooms, and Sunday school wing, and they are actively fundraising within Ghana. Your contribution will go a long way toward meeting this goal.

Volunteers

Beginning as early as 2008, we will be organizing groups of volunteers to travel to Peki. Willing volunteers of all ages and skills are welcome. Please let us know if you are interested. We also need volunteers who know particular trades, as they are in short supply in Ghana. Carpenters, plumbers, and electricians are encouraged to sign up.
